A short list this week, deliberately. Several names doing the rounds in September "new restaurant" round-ups — Hokkien House, CHIU San, Bistrot's Suzette, Canton Library, AOI by KAIYŌ, Il Presidente, TATE, Migas, Fello and Café Landmark among them — checked out as already covered elsewhere on this site once we grepped our own archive, so they're not repeated here (links to each are below). What's genuinely new this week: a Michelin Young Chef's tasting-menu restaurant swapping Tsim Sha Tsui for a bigger Causeway Bay dining room, and a cult American ice cream brand finally back on Hong Kong's high street after four years away.
1. Ankôma — Causeway Bay
A bigger stage for one of Hong Kong's most decorated young chefs. Ankôma, chef Frankie Wong's contemporary French-Japanese tasting-menu restaurant, is packing up its three-year Tsim Sha Tsui home and relocating to a 28-seat dining room on the 16th floor of Cubus in Causeway Bay this mid-September. Wong, winner of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau Young Chef Award 2025, has only just turned 30 — the new space gives him a larger kitchen with dedicated dry-ageing and fermentation facilities, plus the restaurant's first-ever dedicated pastry chef, Tina Lam, previously of vegan bakery Moono and Marseille's Le Petit Nice Passedat.
Ankôma
The debut menu also reworks curry fish balls into a grouper-and-cuttlefish dish with a dai-pai-dong-style stir-fry king and vadouvan clam sauce. Book via Ankôma's Instagram or website; the new room includes a private dining space for group bookings. Full venue details →
2. Emack & Bolio's — Central
The cones are coming back. Boston-born ice cream brand Emack & Bolio's — founded in 1975, older than Ben & Jerry's, and known for its hippie-bright branding and inventive flavours — is opening a new ground-floor shop on Hollywood Road in Central this September. It's the brand's first physical Hong Kong store since it left the city's high street in 2021; in the years since, it had only been available locally in home-packaged format. The return brings back scoop-and-cone service, dipped waffle cones and made-to-order ice cream cakes.
Emack & Bolio's
Exact opening date not yet confirmed at time of writing — this is the brand's first shopfront in Hong Kong in four years, so expect queues once it lands. Full venue details →
