A coffee run does not usually double as a good deed, but the new Little Cove Espresso kiosk on the Central harbourfront makes a strong case. Part of the Central Yards project, this striking little coffee stand gives every dollar of net profit to charity — and looks like nothing else on the waterfront.
What is the Central Yards kiosk?
It is a new, permanent-feeling coffee kiosk on the New Central Harbourfront, run by the Australian-style café brand Little Cove Espresso. This is the group's fifth Hong Kong location, and it lands as part of Central Yards, a placemaking project bringing life to the harbour-edge walkways between IFC and the ferry piers.
The idea is simple: a quick, well-made coffee in a spot where good options have been thin. It pours Little Cove's specialty coffee alongside pastries made specifically for this location, so there is a small reason to seek it out even if you know the brand.
Why is a coffee kiosk giving away its profits?
Because that is the whole point: all net proceeds from the kiosk go to Save the Children. The project is framed as a way for Hongkongers to support vulnerable children and communities simply by buying their usual flat white — no extra effort, no separate donation.
It is a smart bit of everyday philanthropy, and it fits the current mood of the city's café scene, where owner-led spots increasingly want to stand for something. The design — and the art around it
The kiosk is a piece of design in its own right, created with the London architecture studio AL_A — led by Amanda Levete — and Hong Kong artist Hayley Lee. The result is a sculptural, almost spaceship-like structure that turns a functional coffee stand into a landmark.
There is more to look at, too. The surrounding walkway is wrapped in French artist Emmanuelle Moureaux's large-scale installation, "100 colors no.54 FLOW", so the whole passage reads as an open-air gallery. Grab a coffee, walk the colour, and you have a genuinely lovely 20-minute detour on the harbourfront — one for our list of things to do in Hong Kong.
