What is the Art Plaza Project?
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Art Plaza Project is the Hong Kong Palace Museum's (HKPM) first outdoor public art exhibition, occupying the Museum Plaza in front of the museum's West Kowloon Cultural District building. It brings together six sculptures and multimedia installations by six cross-disciplinary Hong Kong artists and an architect, all responding to the theme of traditional Chinese garden aesthetics with what HKPM describes as "poetic and zen-style" works.
It opened on 8 November 2025 and has been running continuously since, making it one of the longer-running free art experiences in the West Kowloon Cultural District — but its year-long run ends on 2 November 2026.
What to see
Among the confirmed works is "Range of Mountains", a trio of sculptures built by bending, twisting and welding iron rods into fluid yet powerful lines that echo the brushwork of traditional Chinese landscape painting. Also on view is "Arrow", a bamboo sculpture drawing on the multifaceted symbolism of the bamboo arrow in Chinese culture. Across the six pieces, the throughline is a shared vocabulary of garden design — rock, mountain and material forms reinterpreted through contemporary sculpture and installation techniques.
