What is Winds of Hong Kong?
Winds of Hong Kong (working title) is a new site-specific commission by artist Refik Anadol, announced by M+ as part of its 2026 exhibition and moving-image programme. The work is described as an AI-driven "data sculpture" that visualises wind patterns across Hong Kong in real time, translating live environmental data into shifting, abstract colour and light across the Facade's enormous surface.
M+ frames the piece as "capturing the energy of Hong Kong's natural and urban landscape," using machine learning to surface patterns in the wind data that wouldn't otherwise be visible — a continuation of the data-visualisation approach Anadol has used on landmark buildings elsewhere in the world.

Who is Refik Anadol?
Refik Anadol is a Turkish media artist known internationally for large-scale, AI-driven data visualisations projected onto architecture — work that treats vast datasets (weather, traffic, even brain activity) as raw material for abstract, painterly motion. The M+ Facade commission is his first major public work in Hong Kong, and one of several site-specific pieces M+ has lined up for the Facade's 2026 programme.
Earlier in 2026, M+ collaborated with Art Basel for the fifth consecutive year to co-commission a separate spring Facade artwork, meaning 2026 sees two major artist takeovers of the screen — one in spring, and Anadol's in autumn.
