Hong Kong is not a city short on things to do. But once you've done the harbour cruise, hiked Dragon's Back, and eaten your weight in dim sum at Tim Ho Wan, you start looking for something a little different. Something that gets your heart rate up without requiring hiking boots or a ferry timetable. That's where Fox in a Box comes in.
Tucked into the 9th floor of the Eastcore building in Kwun Tong, four minutes from the MTR exit A2, Fox in a Box is the local home of a world-renowned escape room brand. And unlike a lot of imported concepts that trade on reputation without delivering, this one genuinely earns its five-star rating every single session.
Eight Rooms, Eight Very Different Ways to Lose Your Mind
This is where Fox in a Box seriously outpaces the competition. While most escape rooms in Hong Kong give you two or three themes to choose from, Fox in a Box runs eight fully distinct rooms simultaneously, accommodating up to 64 players at once. Each room is a completely different world, built to a cinematic standard that makes most local competitors look like student projects.
The rooms are grouped by difficulty, from beginner-friendly adventures that work brilliantly for first-timers and families, through to expert-level challenges that have left seasoned escape room enthusiasts genuinely stumped. Here's what you're working with:
Life Sentence
Break out of a maximum-security prison after being wrongfully sentenced to life. The ideal starting room for first-timers and families. A modified kid-friendly version is available for younger players.
Mastermind Heist
Pose as the cleaning crew to hack security, disable alarms and crack a prestigious diamond vault. A story-driven challenge played in the dark with flashlights. Great for beginners looking for something a bit different.
The Bunker
Infiltrate a Cold War bunker to halt a nuclear launch sequence before the countdown hits zero. Atmospheric, intense, and one of the most immersive sets in the building.
Wild West Saloon
Sneak into the corrupt mayor's saloon office to steal a massive gold shipment in this guns-blazing heist. A kid-friendly adventure in modified form, and a crowd favourite for mixed-age groups.
Zombie Lab
Race to synthesize the antidote in a quarantined lab overrun by the zombie virus before the infected overwhelm humanity. Brain-teasing puzzles in a genuinely creepy setting.
Zodiac Killer
Escape the lair of a bloodthirsty serial killer before he returns to claim his next victim. The fan favourite by a clear margin. Spooky, detailed, and genuinely tense. Not for the faint-hearted.
The Other Side
Cross into a parallel universe, close a dark portal and return to reality before the horrors escape. Inspired by Stranger Things. Unique puzzle mechanics that will challenge even experienced players.
Tesla's Mystery
Uncover Nikola Tesla's final invention in his New Yorker hotel room before the FBI close in. A non-linear design that demands serious logic and lateral thinking. The hardest room in the venue.
If you're new to escape rooms, Life Sentence is the recommended entry point. Experienced players should go straight to Zodiac Killer or The Other Side. And if someone in your group insists they've "done everything and nothing can challenge them," point them at Tesla's Mystery and watch the confidence evaporate.

What Makes It Actually Good
I've played escape rooms across Hong Kong, and the quality gap is real. Most local rooms drop you into a cramped space full of padlocks and random number combinations with no narrative thread, no atmosphere, and puzzles that feel like they were designed by someone who's never played one. Fox in a Box is a completely different animal.
The set design is cinematic. Every room is built to be explored, with detailed props, atmospheric soundscapes that evolve as you progress, and puzzles that are integral to the story rather than bolted on. The hint system is clever too: rather than breaking immersion with a walkie-talkie crackle, clues appear on an in-room screen as part of the game world. A dedicated Game Master watches the whole session via HD cameras and steps in seamlessly when your team needs a nudge.

"What a great way to start the day by being locked up in prison! We had an absolute brilliant time at Fox-in-a-box and would totally recommend it 100%. We played the Life Sentence Room which kept us always guessing and engaged the whole time. Working as a team of 4 we solved the room with only 7 minutes remaining on the clock."— Tracy N, verified TripAdvisor review · 29 contributions
Great for Groups, Families, Dates and Corporate Teams
Fox in a Box accommodates groups of 2 to 64 people, running all eight rooms simultaneously for large events. That range makes it one of the most versatile activities in Hong Kong. It works as a date night that's genuinely memorable, a family day out (modified kid-friendly versions are available for younger players), a friends' night out, a school trip, or a corporate team-building day that people will actually talk about afterwards.
Over 500 Hong Kong companies have used Fox in a Box for corporate events. The venue specifically offers head-to-head Bunker rooms where two teams race through identical missions simultaneously, which adds a competitive edge that works brilliantly for team building.

"Great fun with friends! The staff explained the game well and even added in an extra puzzle so we could compete with and intercept our friends in a different escape room. The clues were just the right level of challenging. Highly recommend!"— Claire E, verified TripAdvisor review · February 2025

"Fox in a Box has been the best Escape Room that I have played by far. We were greeted by super friendly staff that assisted us in choosing what escape room best suited us... My friends and I came back to play Zombie Lab & Zodiac Killer and they were just as good. Especially Zodiac Killer as that was my favourite. For future players, I would recommend Life Sentence as it warms you up for the other rooms."— Ethan S, verified TripAdvisor review · March 2023
Why 2026 Is the Year to Go
Escape rooms had a moment in Hong Kong about five years ago, and a lot of venues that rushed in have since closed or stagnated. Fox in a Box has done the opposite. It now runs eight rooms, has expanded its capacity to 64 simultaneous players, and maintains a perfect five-star rating across both TripAdvisor and Google. That doesn't happen by accident, and it doesn't happen without consistently delivering.
If you've been meaning to try it, stop waiting for the right occasion. There isn't one, because any occasion works. It's an hour of genuine fun that requires zero preparation, works for almost any group, and costs roughly the same as a decent dinner without the bill shock. Add in the fact that it's fully English-friendly and four minutes from the MTR, and you've run out of excuses.

📍 Fox in a Box Hong Kong — The Essentials
Fri to Sun: 11:00am to 11:00pm (last session 9:30pm)
One last thing: after you've escaped (or been dramatically defeated with 30 seconds to go), the Kwun Tong neighbourhood has come a long way in recent years and there are plenty of spots nearby to debrief over a drink. But that's a story for another article.
