Lai Chi Wo 荔枝窩
This 300-year-old Hakka walled village in the far northeast New Territories has been brought back to life by returning villagers and conservationists, its rice paddies replanted and its revival recognised by UNESCO.
Catch the weekend kaito from Ma Liu Shui (about 90 minutes) and reward the journey with home-style Hakka cooking from the village stalls before the 3:30pm boat back.

Hakka salty chicken, preserved-radish omelette and steamed dumplings from the weekend village stalls.
