What is TORIKIZOKU?

TORIKIZOKU is a yakitori izakaya chain founded in Osaka in 1985 by chef Tadashi Okura, whose name for the brand translates roughly to "treat guests like royalty." What started as one neighbourhood grill near Higashiosaka's Kintetsu Shuntokumichi station has grown into a chain of more than 600 directly operated and franchised restaurants across Japan, built on a simple formula: flat, uniform pricing, self-service ordering and a lively, communal room.

The brand has expanded fast in Hong Kong since its first branch opened in Tuen Mun in December 2024, adding outposts in Tai Po, Kwai Fong, Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O before landing in Mong Kok — six branches in under two years. The new Grand Plaza restaurant spans almost 3,600 sq ft across 38 tables and 140 seats, with golden wood panels, traditional noren curtains and Japanese graphic design details built to evoke an Osaka izakaya inside one of Kowloon's busiest shopping streets.

Everything on the menu costs HK$19.90 or HK$29.90 — no surprises, no small print, just skewers and a claw machine.

TORIKIZOKU's signature dish is the Kizokuyaki, a generous skewer of chicken thigh or breast paired with sweet spring onion, finished with the brand's slow-simmered tare sauce or a sprinkle of rock salt. The Mong Kok branch also introduces two cuts new to Hong Kong: Chicken Oyster and Chicken Breast Soft Bone, alongside regulars like juicy Tsukune chicken meatballs, the molten Cheese Tsukune, Mentaiko Zucchini Skewer and King Oyster Mushroom. The Kyabetsu Mori cabbage salad comes with unlimited refills — a crisp counterpoint to the grilled meat.

Pricing is deliberately simple: all yakitori and desserts are HK$29.90, while sides and a rice-egg-soup set are HK$19.90. The drinks list runs to more than 40 options, including Mango Beer, Sake Mojito and Choya Americano (alcoholic drinks, HK$29.90) alongside fruit teas such as Yuzu Lime Green Tea and Lychee Apple Green Tea, Calpis Soda and smoothies (non-alcoholic, HK$19.90, except Suntory All-Free and smoothies). Ordering is done via tablet at the table — the first Hong Kong branch to offer this.

Opening promotions and the new mobile app

To mark the launch, TORIKIZOKU ran exclusive offers from 4 to 18 August 2026: anyone ordering Chicken Skin Chips or French Fries with Butter Sauce (HK$29.90 each) received a 50% bonus portion, and diners who shared their visit on social media earned two tokens for a claw machine stocked with branch-exclusive plush toys, including the Torikki Mascot and a MEGA Super Large Beer soft toy.

Looking further ahead, TORIKIZOKU Hong Kong will launch a mobile app in September 2026, adding online queuing, a points-based rewards programme, birthday-month privileges and a tiered membership system that lets regulars level up their own virtual Torikki Mascot.
