What is The Communal?
The Communal is the new coffee lounge at Mandarin Oriental, The Landmark, Hong Kong, designed as a soft extension of the hotel's lobby rather than a separate restaurant. Sunlit banquettes and deep lounge seating face a marble-topped coffee bar finished in dark, bamboo-tiled green, where guests can watch baristas work through pour-overs and pastries.
The room is deliberately low-key by five-star hotel standards: it operates on a walk-in-only basis, with no reservations taken, and the dress code is simply smart casual. It's built for quiet mornings, informal meetings and unhurried afternoons rather than a set-piece dining occasion — a departure from the grander restaurants elsewhere in the same hotel.

Coffee is the point: The Communal uses beans roasted daily by Hazel & Hershey, served through pour-overs alongside a short list of espresso drinks. Food runs across three menus — a dedicated breakfast menu, an all-day dining menu of sandwiches and pastries, and a kids' set menu for family visits.
Pricing sits at roughly HK$101–200 per item, in line with other hotel-lobby cafes in Central. Breakfast service runs 9am to 11:30am, after which the all-day menu takes over until closing at 7pm.

Mandarin Oriental, The Landmark, Hong Kong reopened on 1 June 2026 following a full renovation, with its restaurant roster now running the full length of the hotel's fine-dining reputation: the three-Michelin-starred, Green-starred Amber, the three-Michelin-starred Sushi Shikon, the one-Michelin-starred Rin, plus SOMM and BLANC DE NOIRS. All of it sits under the culinary direction of Chef Richard Ekkebus, the hotel's longtime executive chef.
