The MacLehose Trail is about to see thousands of headlamps at once. Oxfam Trailwalker, one of the largest fundraising sporting events in Hong Kong, returns for its 50th anniversary edition from 20 to 22 November 2026, sending teams of four on a 100km trek from Sai Kung to Tuen Mun within a 48-hour limit.

What is Oxfam Trailwalker?
Oxfam Trailwalker is Hong Kong's best-known fundraising endurance event, run by Oxfam Hong Kong since the 1980s. Teams of four walk or run 100km together, non-stop, raising sponsorship money that funds Oxfam's local and international poverty-relief and emergency-aid projects. The 2026 edition marks a milestone: Oxfam Hong Kong's 50th anniversary.
The event has grown from a small charity challenge into one of the most demanding mass-participation endurance events in the city, drawing corporate teams, university groups and dedicated hiking clubs who train for months beforehand.
The route, format and rules
The 100km course follows most of the MacLehose Trail and a connected route, starting at Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung and finishing at Harrow International School Hong Kong in Tuen Mun. Along the way, participants pass through nine checkpoints and one control point, where teams can rest, refuel and receive support from crews.
Teams start in staggered waves at 8am, 9:30am, 11am or 12:30pm on 20 November, and must complete the full course as a team of four within 48 hours. For the 50th-anniversary edition, a shorter 20km route runs on 21 November, starting from the Rotary Park car park on Tai Mo Shan and finishing at the same Tuen Mun venue — a more accessible option for newer participants.
Dates, fees and how it's organised
Oxfam Trailwalker 2026
All funds raised go towards Oxfam Hong Kong's local and global poverty-alleviation projects, from emergency relief to long-term livelihood programmes.
Why does it matter?
Beyond the fundraising total, Trailwalker has become an unofficial marker of Hong Kong's hiking calendar — the weekend when parts of the MacLehose Trail see support crews, cheer squads and volunteers alongside the usual weekend hikers. Teams that raise HK$38,000 or more earn priority registration for the following year's event, a reflection of how competitive a spot in the field has become.
