A tighter week for openings, and a distinctly Central one. Three of the district's newest rooms share the same trick — a proper coffee programme by day, something stronger once the sun drops — and between them they cover an arts-club café, a jazz bar tucked inside a rooftop restaurant, and a coffee counter that turns speakeasy after six. Here is our verified hit-list of what has just opened, with the address, the price and what to order.

This week's openings: No Sleep Club (coffee-and-art café) at the Fringe Club, Central; Take 5 (jazz-inspired live-music bar) at H Queen's, Central; and C108 (coffee by day, cocktails by night) on Old Bailey Street, Central. Tap any name below for the address, price and what to order.

1. No Sleep Club — Central

The Fringe Club has developed a caffeine habit. No Sleep Club has moved into the lower ground floor of the historic Fringe Club on Lower Albert Road, and it leans hard into its arts-venue setting — the house line is "espresso meets brushstrokes", the seating runs to leather couches and beanbag chairs, and the walls carry rotating artworks you are meant to linger over. The coffee is taken seriously and poured alongside matcha and a short run of tarts, of which the pistachio and yuzu are the ones to seek out.

It is an unusually central perch — a couple of minutes up from the Central–Mid-Levels Escalator — and, for the area, an unusually calm one, which makes it useful when Soho is heaving and you want somewhere to actually hear yourself think.

2. Take 5 — Central

Hong Kong's live-music bench gains a serious new player. Take 5, from Elite Concepts, has opened on the second floor of H Queen's inside the new restaurant Avalon, and it is built around live music rather than bolting it on afterwards. The programme is curated by jazz guitarist and audio specialist Skip Moy, with rotating sets that run from straight jazz to singer-songwriters and guest vocalists; the room, by local studio Unite Unit, takes its name both from the Dave Brubeck standard "Take Five" and from the musician's slang for a five-minute break between sets.

The drinks list is kept deliberately tight — five signature cocktails at HK$110 each (Misty, Skylark, Green Dolphin Street, Four and Angel Eyes), each named after a jazz standard. Because it sits directly above sibling restaurant Avalon, it is easy to turn a booking into dinner and a set.

"Three Central rooms, one idea: a proper flat white before lunch and a well-made drink after dark, all within a ten-minute walk of the escalator."

3. C108 — Central

A coffee counter with a double life. C108, on Old Bailey Street a few doors from Tai Kwun, pulls siphon and hand-drip coffee during the day and turns into a Mediterranean-leaning cocktail den after dark. The bar side is the reason to plan a visit right now: head bartender Rolf Flaminiano has built a seasonal trio running 1 July to 31 August 2026, a set of classics reworked with small, deliberate twists under the house line "every sip tells a story".

It is walk-in only and firmly evening-focused — the bar runs from 6pm, to midnight most nights and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays — so treat it as a nightcap on the way down from Tai Kwun rather than something to book ahead.
