Picture this: it is dusk, you are waist-deep in a wave pool, neon lights are bouncing off the water and a DJ is dropping a remix of an 80s Cantopop classic. That is Canton Beats, the retro pool party taking over Water World Ocean Park this summer — and it runs on weekend evenings until the end of August. Here is what is on, when to go and how much it costs.

In short: Canton Beats is Water World Ocean Park's biggest retro Cantopop DJ pool party, part of its Beat The Summer festival running 4 July–31 August 2026. It takes over Horizon Cove from 6.30pm to 9.30pm every Saturday and Sunday (bar a special idol night on 22 August), with international DJs, light shows and an 80s poolside bar.

What is Canton Beats at Water World?

Canton Beats is Water World Ocean Park's biggest Cantopop DJ pool party to date. It is the headline act of Beat The Summer, a season-long festival that drapes the whole park in 1980s Hong Kong nostalgia — think neon signage, retro photo corners and golden-oldie soundtracks.

The party lands at Horizon Cove, where guests splash around to Cantopop remixes and classic hits under a full light display, while an 80s-themed poolside bar keeps the drinks flowing all night. It is a genuinely different night out: not a club, not a gig, but a warm-water rave under the stars. For more after-dark ideas, see our guide to the city's best nightclubs and the best live music and concerts in Hong Kong.

"Not a club, not a gig, but a warm-water rave under the stars — Canton Beats is the most Hong Kong way to spend a summer night."

When is Canton Beats on?

Beat The Summer runs from 4 July to 31 August 2026, and Canton Beats takes over the pool from 6.30pm to 9.30pm every Saturday and Sunday across that window. The one exception is 22 August, when the park swaps the DJ decks for a special idol night (see below).

Because it is an evening event, it is a smart way to dodge the worst of the summer heat — the slides and wave pools are still open, just under neon light rather than blazing sun. If you are mapping out the rest of your week, our best things to do in Hong Kong this week is a good place to start.

Who is playing?

The line-up leans on names from across Asia's dance circuit. Confirmed guests include South Korea's DJ Sura, Malaysia's hugely popular DJ Amber Na, the crowd-working DJ Kixon, and Doctor DJ SunB, fresh from the stage at S2O Taiwan.

If pop idols are more your thing, circle 22 August: from 6pm to 9.30pm the park hosts a special night of performances and meet-and-greets with six pop groups from around the region, in place of the usual DJ set.

What else is happening this summer?

Beat The Summer is more than the pool party. Around the park you will find retro "bing teng" (冰廳) photo corners, a giant gacha machine, a glow-in-the-dark "Plumber King" art gallery and oversized neon installations. There are supersized versions of Jenga and Connect Four, and a light-hearted matchmaking event every Saturday hosted by internet personality Moon Cheung.

Fancy a workout instead? Aqua SUP yoga sessions run at Big Wave Bay every Saturday and Sunday at 5.30pm and 6.30pm, with water volleyball and basketball competitions alongside. It makes an easy family day out, too — pair it with our pick of kid-friendly activities in Hong Kong.
