Women's international rugby is coming to Kai Tak for the first time. Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) will host the brand-new WXV Global Series Challenger across three September weekends, giving the national women's XVs team its first home fixtures on Hong Kong soil since 2024.

What is the WXV Global Series Challenger?
The WXV Global Series Challenger is a brand-new tier of women's international rugby, sitting underneath World Rugby's main WXV competition and designed to give developing programmes more regular, meaningful international fixtures on the road to the Women's Rugby World Cup 2029 in Australia. Hong Kong has been chosen to host the inaugural edition — a genuine first for the city, and part of Kai Tak Sports Park's push to diversify beyond its marquee events like the HSBC Hong Kong Sevens and the recently hosted Volleyball Nations League.
Six teams contest the competition: hosts Hong Kong China, alongside Brazil, Fiji, the Netherlands, Samoa and Spain. It's an “M” Mark event — the Major Sports Events Committee's designation for events judged intense, spectacular and significant to Hong Kong's standing as a sports hub.

The tournament runs in three rounds, each a triple-header on the same day, so a single ticket covers three international matches. Hosts Hong Kong China play in every round, facing Brazil, Fiji and Samoa in turn.

Getting there
Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground sits within the wider Kai Tak Sports Park complex. The quickest route is via Sung Wong Toi MTR Station (Tuen Ma Line), Exit D, then a straight five-minute walk to the ground; Kai Tak Station, also on the Tuen Ma Line, is a slightly longer five- to ten-minute walk via its own Exit D. Both stations get busy on matchdays, so building in extra time is sensible, especially ahead of the 12:00 kick-offs.
