After a run of dense, multi-venue weeks, the verified intake this time is short but sharp: a Mainland Chinese hospitality chain betting on Hong Kong as its launchpad into Southeast Asia, an award-winning local bartender's second act, and a Michelin-trained pastry chef bringing an Italian café to Wan Chai. Several names doing the rounds this week — from a Causeway Bay beef-tongue specialist to a hotel coffee lounge — turned out to have opened weeks or months ago once we checked the primary sources, so they have been left out. Here is what genuinely opened, or is about to.
1. Commune — Causeway Bay
A Mainland heavyweight picks Hong Kong as its launchpad. Commune, an all-day, directly managed bar-restaurant chain from the Mainland, opened its first Hong Kong store at Lee Garden Three in Causeway Bay on 5 August 2026 — and the city isn't just getting a branch. Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) confirmed the Causeway Bay store also serves as Commune's regional headquarters as it plans further Southeast Asia expansion over the next 12 months. The concept pairs craft beer with curated dishes across spacious, social seating, and the brand has ranked first among Mainland bar-restaurant chains by revenue for three consecutive years since 2022, with more than 100 locations across the Mainland.
Menu specifics and pricing for the Hong Kong store were not published at launch, so treat this as one to watch rather than book — we'll update once the full menu lands. For a more established Causeway Bay night out, the neighbourhood's whisky bars remain a safe bet in the meantime.

Commune's Hong Kong debut doubles as its regional headquarters, backed by InvestHK's investment-promotion support — a signal the brand intends to stay and expand from here.
2. Fello — Central
Shelley Tai's follow-up act. A year almost to the week after her acclaimed debut bar Mius opened its doors, bartender Shelley Tai has launched Fello, a two-storey cocktail bar on Wyndham Street in Central. Mius went on to win the Foodie Forks 2026 Best New Bar award and the Asia's 50 Best Best Bar Design Award, debuting at 36th on the wider Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026 list — so Fello arrives with genuine pedigree behind it. The philosophy here is more people-first than showcase: a warm-toned room built for conversation, with an eight-drink cocktail list from HK$100 to HK$130 spanning classical expressions such as a pineapple basil smash, a Gyokuro melon punch and a peony pear smoothie. Food runs to scallion oil tossed noodles and a tsukune chicken burger.

3. Sugar Daddy — Wan Chai (opening imminently)
One to watch for the diary. Sugar Daddy, a new Italian pastry, gelato and coffee concept from chef Fabio Bardi, is opening imminently on Queen's Road East in Wan Chai — an exact date had not been confirmed at the time of writing, so treat this as a heads-up rather than a booking. Bardi's résumé carries serious weight: three-Michelin-starred 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana, one-Michelin-starred ESTRO, and Dang Wen Li by Dominique Ansel, alongside his earlier run at Tozzo. Sugar Daddy leans into "balanced indulgence" — his signature maritozzi cream buns, bite-sized piccola pasticceria, buttery cornetti, fresh gelato and sorbetto, and Italian coffee, made with lower-sugar recipes and natural ingredients, plus vegan, sugar-free and dairy-free options.
