Wan Chai's most photogenic shopping street has gone full lantern mode. Lee Tung Avenue's Moon Fest Lumiere strings more than 800 lanterns along the pedestrian avenue's 200-metre tree-lined walkway, running now through 19 October 2026 — and this year it's paired with the debut of an 18-metre LED Fire Dragon on 17 September.

What is Moon Fest Lumiere?
Moon Fest Lumiere is Lee Tung Avenue's annual Mid-Autumn lantern display, staged along the 200-metre tree-lined, stone-paved pedestrian street built on the site of the old Lee Tung Street (once nicknamed "Wedding Card Street"). For 2026, more than 800 lanterns line the avenue, mixing contemporary lantern designs with traditional palace-style pieces, turning the shopping strip into a walk-through light installation after dark.
Unlike a single-night festival, the display is up for close to seven weeks — from early September through 19 October 2026 — so there's no need to squeeze a visit into Mid-Autumn Festival weekend itself (25–27 September) if you'd rather avoid the crowds.
The LED Fire Dragon debut
New for this year's programme is an 18-metre-long LED Fire Dragon, its length wrapped in flickering lights, debuting at Lee Tung Avenue on 17 September 2026. It's a distinct feature from the traditional straw-and-incense Fire Dragon that winds through nearby Tai Hang each Mid-Autumn (see our Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance guide for that separate, decades-old tradition) — this is an LED reinterpretation built specifically for the avenue's lantern season. Lee Tung Avenue has not published a full run of additional performance dates beyond the 17 September debut at the time of writing, so it's worth checking the venue's official Instagram (@leetungavenue) closer to your visit if you want to catch the dragon lit up rather than just the static lantern displays.

Moon Fest Lumiere at Lee Tung Avenue
The lanterns run the full length of the pedestrianised avenue, so there's no single "entrance" — wander in from either the Queen's Road East or Johnston Road end. Evenings after 7pm give the best contrast between the lanterns and the dusk sky; weeknights are noticeably quieter than the Mid-Autumn Festival weekend itself.
Is it worth the trip?
If you're already building a Mid-Autumn itinerary around Victoria Park's Lantern Carnival or the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, Lee Tung Avenue is an easy add-on: it's a short MTR ride from both (one stop from Causeway Bay, a longer walk or short hop from Tin Hau), it runs for weeks rather than a single weekend, and it doubles as a shopping and dining stop with the avenue's mix of boutiques and restaurants either side of the lanterns.
Good to know: the avenue gets busiest on weekend evenings once word spreads on social media, so a weeknight visit — or an early-evening one, just after the lanterns are lit — is the more comfortable option if you're bringing young children or want clearer photos.
