Kung Fu Artistry — Bruce Lee's No Way as Way (龍．少年)
This will be the production's first Hong Kong run since its acclaimed 2025 premiere. In between, it toured to Shanghai (21–22 Aug 2026) and Chengdu (4–5 Sept 2026) — the latter as the opening programme of "Hong Kong Week 2026 @ Chengdu" — before a further Shenzhen leg in November. Hong Kong Dance Company describes the January dates as the production's "triumphant return" home.
What is Kung Fu Artistry about?
Subtitled "Bruce Lee's No Way as Way", the grand dance drama traces Bruce Lee's life from passionate youth to Hollywood superstardom, told entirely through dance. An ensemble of professional dancers trained in martial arts blends Jeet Kune Do, karate and nunchaku work with Wing Chun as its choreographic core, set against ink-wash-style visual design. The production was first honoured with support from the China National Arts Fund 2025 for large-scale creation, and went on to earn 10 nominations at the 27th Hong Kong Dance Awards.
Who's behind it, and is this the same show as the Hong Kong Ballet's Bruce Lee ballet?
No — these are two separate 2026/27-season productions inspired by the same figure. Kung Fu Artistry is a Hong Kong Dance Company work, choreographed and directed by Yang Yuntao, with art direction and costumes by Man Lim-chung (a Hong Kong Film Awards Best Art Direction winner), music by jazz composer Patrick Lui (performed live by a house band including piano, drums, bass, guitar, trumpet and saxophone), and martial arts advised by Dr Lewis Luk MH, JP. Separately, Hong Kong Ballet is developing its own ballet, "Bruce Lee: Hong Kong Legend", directed by Septime Webre, as part of its 2026/27 "Hong Kong Bling" season — a distinct work, with its own premiere date yet to be confirmed.
