Hong Kong's governing body for triathlon is bringing its swim-run championship back to the Hong Kong Sports Institute this October, with categories running from five-year-old TriKids up to a 65-and-over age group.

What is an aquathlon?
An aquathlon strips triathlon down to two legs: a timed open-water or pool swim followed immediately by a run, with no cycling leg. The 2026 Hong Kong Aquathlon Championships is run by TriHK, the sport's national governing body in Hong Kong, and doubles as both a standalone championship and a feeder event for the association's individual and club season-long series scoring. Entry is open to holders of a valid Hong Kong Identity Card or people working in Hong Kong (a standard TriHK condition for its local-series races, as opposed to its international fixtures).
Categories and distances
The race is split into six distance bands, each with its own age groups, per TriHK's official entry information:
- Challenge (swim 600m / run 4km) — elite and age-group categories from 20–24 up to 65 & over, entry quota 212
- Sprint (swim 400m / run 3km) — junior categories plus age groups from 20–29 up to 70 & over, entry quota 212
- Discovery (swim 300m / run 2km) — for children born 2011–2014, entry quota 142
- TriKids Distance 1 (swim 200m / run 1.3km) — born 2015–2016, entry quota 142
- TriKids Distance 2 (swim 200m / run 900m) — born 2017–2018, entry quota 106
- SuperKids (swim 50m / run 900m) — born 2019–2020, entry quota 70, HK$250 flat fee
For the two TriKids distances, one parent is permitted to accompany their own child from the swim exit through transition and jog alongside them to the finish — a detail worth knowing if you're entering a young child and want to stay close.
Race-day schedule
Waves start from 8am and run through the morning into early afternoon, youngest categories first:
- 8:00am — TriKids Distance 1
- 8:45am — TriKids Distance 2
- 9:15am — SuperKids
- 9:30am — Discovery
- 10:30am — Sprint
- 1:00pm — Challenge
TriHK notes this schedule is tentative and may shift slightly closer to race day, so check the official entry list confirmation for your exact wave time.
Entry fees and how to register
Entry runs on a tiered fee depending on membership status: HK$250 for TriHK and affiliated club members, HK$300 for TriHK members without a club affiliation, and HK$350 for non-members. SuperKids entry is a flat HK$250 regardless of membership. Registration opened 26 August 2026 and the standard deadline is Monday 28 September 2026 at 6pm; late entries are accepted until Friday 2 October, 12 noon, with a HK$100 surcharge. Total quota across all six distances is 900 places, so popular age groups can fill before the deadline — apply through TriHK's official site rather than a third-party reseller.

2026 Hong Kong Aquathlon Championships
Every finisher receives an e-certificate and finisher medal; the top three in each category win a trophy, rising to the top five where a category draws 31 or more entrants. TriHK operates a strict non-refund policy, including for races cancelled by Typhoon Signal No. 8+ or Black Rainstorm Warning, so check the weather forecast rather than the entry terms if you're deciding whether to register.
Insider tip: Fo Tan's covered footbridge route from Exit A is sheltered from October's occasional showers and avoids the road-crossing at street level — look for the signage toward Fo Tan Railway House rather than following a phone map's straight-line walking route, which can send you round the block instead.
