What is Great Music 2026?
Great Music 2026 is a classical concert series presented by Hong Kong's Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), running from June to December 2026 and bringing a run of internationally acclaimed soloists and ensembles to the city. The series opened in June with two performances by Germany's Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, marking the 280-year-old orchestra's first Hong Kong visit in seven years under conductor Andris Nelsons, followed by a duo recital from Chopin Competition winner Rafał Blechacz and violinist Bomsori Kim.
With those early-summer dates now behind it, the series' remaining three concerts land in autumn and winter 2026, all at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall in Central — giving classical music fans a reason to plan ahead for October, November and December.
Which concerts are still to come?
First up is a Violin Recital by Renaud Capùçon on Sunday 11 October at 8pm. One of the most acclaimed violinists of his generation, the French soloist returns to Hong Kong with a programme dedicated entirely to Brahms's three violin sonatas.
On Monday 2 November at 8pm, Grammy-winning violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Opus Klassik-winning cellist Sol Gabetta — duo partners for more than 20 years — make their Hong Kong recital debut as a pair, with a programme spanning Ravel and Kodály through to Baroque detours by Leclair and Bach, and 20th- and 21st-century works by Widmann, Ligeti and Xenakis.
The series closes on Sunday 6 December at 8pm with a solo piano recital by Jan Lisiecki. The Canadian pianist returns to Hong Kong after an eight-year absence with a dance-themed programme spanning Martinů, Chopin, Piazzolla and Albéniz.
