Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday in Hong Kong. That makes 25 to 27 December a three-day weekend for anyone on a general-holiday calendar, and it is the practical fact to plan around before a single festive menu or light show is published. This hub covers what is already confirmed for Christmas in Hong Kong 2026, what is still waiting on an announcement, and what to do while you wait.

In short: 25 and 26 December 2026 are both Hong Kong general holidays, and Christmas Day is a Friday, so the long weekend runs 25 to 27 December. Hong Kong Disneyland has announced “A Disney Christmas” for 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. HKTB’s Gourmet Month fills November with citywide dining offers. WinterFest’s detailed 2026 programme, Ocean Park Christmas, markets and hotel festive menus are not published yet.

Why does Friday Christmas Day matter?

The Hong Kong government’s gazetted general holidays for 2026 list Christmas Day on Friday 25 December and the first weekday after Christmas Day on Saturday 26 December. Sunday 27 December is already a weekly rest day for most offices, so the public break runs three calendar days. That is the decision most locals make first: book a Friday night dinner or a Saturday park day, or keep Friday free for a day trip, before chasing unannounced markets.

It also changes the crowd pattern. Christmas Eve (Thursday 24 December) becomes the peak dining night for people who work Friday, and Christmas Day itself is quieter for restaurants that stay open but busier for theme parks. If you only have one free evening in the week, Thursday 24 December is the one that sells out first once hotel festive menus open for booking, usually from late October.

Public holidays and the three-day framing are checked against the GovHK 2026 general holidays page, 16 October 2026.

What is on before Christmas?

The Christmas season does not start on 25 December. HKTB’s Hong Kong Gourmet Month runs 1 to 30 November 2026, right after the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival (29 October to 1 November at the Central Harbourfront Event Space and Tamar Park). Keep the festival ticket stub: HKTB says stubs unlock offers at selected restaurants and retailers through Gourmet Month. The outlet list and redemption rules were still unpublished on 16 October, so do not promise yourself a specific restaurant discount yet, but the stub is cheap insurance. Festival admission is HK$40 for ages 12 and over (HK$20 concession).

That hand-off is the useful bit competitors skip. A stub bought on the festival’s last day, Sunday 1 November, still works for the next 29 days of Gourmet Month. Our Gourmet Month event page tracks the programme as the outlet list lands. Primary source: Discover Hong Kong’s Wine & Dine Festival page.

Disney Christmas: announced by the resort

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has announced “A Disney Christmas” for 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, via the resort’s own press release distributed on PR Times (Japanese) on 17 September 2026. The English Christmas page on hongkongdisneyland.com returned a server error when we checked on 16 October 2026, so the dates below are attributed to that resort announcement rather than restated from a live English programme page. Re-check hongkongdisneyland.com before you book.

From the same announcement: Disney Christmas Live in Concert! is scheduled for 21 to 22 November and 5 to 6 December 2026. A Non-stop 2-Day Fun Ticket lets guests add HK$100 to a regular one-day ticket for a second consecutive park day, on sale through 31 December 2026. Reservations for the concert seating and the New Year’s Eve Countdown packages opened from 28 September 2026. World of Frozen is dressed for the season, with a winter market and a walking Olaf meet-and-greet among the billed additions; a separate “Winterfest” inside World of Frozen is billed from 5 January 2027.

Seasonal entertainment is included with park admission unless a package says otherwise. See our Hong Kong Disneyland venue page for year-round practical details. A dedicated theme-park Christmas head-to-head is on the seasonal runway for early November.

Has WinterFest 2026 been announced yet?

HKTB’s PartnerNet calendar lists Hong Kong WinterFest for November 2026 to January 2027, and the Discover Hong Kong WinterFest page still describes Christmas Town at Statue Square Gardens in Central, including a large tree and Hongkong Land displays along Chater Road. That is the shape of the event in a normal year. What is missing on 16 October is the 2026 switch-on date, market stall list, light-show schedule and any confirmed New Year’s Countdown format.

In recent years the detailed WinterFest programme has landed in mid to late November. Our existing WinterFest 2026 event page correctly says dates are to be confirmed and will be updated when HKTB publishes them. Until then, treat Central and Tsim Sha Tsui festive lights as “expected, not booked”. The free walk-around is usually the best-value Christmas activity in the city; it is also the one you cannot put a calendar hold on yet.

Clockenflap (4 to 6 December 2026) sits inside the same winter window if you want a confirmed ticketed weekend before Christmas. See our Clockenflap 2026 guide.

Has Ocean Park announced Christmas 2026?

Ocean Park’s live event focus on 16 October is still Halloween Fest 2026, which runs to 1 November. The park’s Christmas pages on oceanpark.com.hk still show previous seasons (Wondrous Winter Gala material from 2024–25). A 2026 Christmas programme has not been published. Historically it follows within days of Halloween ending, often in late October or early November. Do not buy December park tickets on the assumption of a panda Christmas tree until the park says so.

If you need a theme-park day before announcements land, Disney is the only park with a dated Christmas season on the record. Ocean Park remains the better pick for pandas and a hillside day out without festive expectations.

What is usually open, and what should you skip for now?

Malls, harbourfront promenades and many cha chaan teng stay open across the Christmas weekend. Fine-dining rooms and hotel festive menus are a different story: tables for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are the first to go once booking links open, typically from late October. Markets, pop-up Christmas Towns and NYE fireworks or harbour countdown formats are still TBA. Our New Year countdown event page will pick up the confirmed format when it lands, usually in December.

One concrete reason to wait: if your plan depends on WinterFest Christmas Town or an Ocean Park Christmas show, you do not yet have a date, a time or a price. Book the three-day weekend around something that already exists (a Disney midweek in early December, a Gourmet Month dinner in November, or a free harbourfront walk once lights are up) and treat the rest as optional once HKTB and the parks publish.

Halloween is still running through 1 November if you are reading this in October. Pair this hub with our Halloween in Hong Kong 2026 calendar for the rest of the month.
