Chinese New Year is Hong Kong's biggest celebration, and the whole city turns red. Lion dances clatter through malls, families crowd the temples for the first incense of the year, and the festivities spill across several days from Saturday 6 February 2027.
Event Essentials
What happens
The Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade lights up Tsim Sha Tsui with floats, performers and marching bands. A spectacular pyrotechnics display fills Victoria Harbour the following night. Around them sit the older rituals โ lion dances, lai see (lucky red packets) and temple visits for good fortune.
Where to go
For the parade, stake out a TST kerb early or book a restaurant with a view. The Lunar New Year flower markets โ the biggest at Victoria Park โ are a riot of peach blossom and pinwheels in the days before. Wong Tai Sin and Che Kung temples draw the faithful seeking a lucky start to the year.
