Dates to be confirmed. The festival falls in late spring (April or May) on the island. The exact 2027 dates follow the lunar calendar and are confirmed nearer the time.
In short: A one-of-a-kind festival on Cheung Chau island in spring 2027: giant bun towers, the floating-children parade, and a midnight bun-scrambling race.

Few events are as gloriously eccentric as the Cheung Chau Bun Festival. The outlying island fills with pilgrims and day-trippers for the Piu Sik parade of 'floating' costumed children, towering scaffolds studded with lucky buns, and a famous midnight scramble to grab them.

What happens

A Taoist festival of thanksgiving and protection, centred on three giant bun towers outside Pak Tai Temple. The daytime Piu Sik parade sends children in elaborate costumes 'floating' above the crowd on hidden supports; the night climaxes with the bun-scrambling competition.

Tips for visitors

Ferries are packed on festival day, so go early and expect queues both ways. The island is car-free and compact — easy to explore on foot between the parade and the temple.
