In short: Three days of rugby sevens at Kai Tak Stadium, 9 to 11 April 2027. Men’s and women’s tournaments, the South Stand in costume, and a city that effectively takes the weekend off.

The Sevens is the single biggest weekend on Hong Kong’s sporting calendar, and since the move from So Kon Po it has run in the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium. Hong Kong China Rugby has confirmed 9 to 11 April 2027, a Friday to Sunday as usual.

How tickets work

Most of the stadium is sold as three-day passes rather than single days, and demand has outrun supply every year since the move to Kai Tak, so allocation runs through a registration and ballot process on the organiser’s site months ahead. Registration for the 2027 tournament is already open. Dates and venue checked against hkrugby.com, 1 October 2026; prices and the ballot timetable are published there as they are set.

The South Stand is the costumed end and is balloted separately in most years. It is also the one part of the ground where very little rugby gets watched, which matters if you are bringing anyone who actually wants to follow the tournament.

If you miss out

Not getting a ticket is the normal outcome rather than bad luck, and it is not the end of the weekend. The free fan zones around the stadium show every match, and the bars in Wan Chai, Lan Kwai Fong and Tsim Sha Tsui screen the lot with a fraction of the queueing. The city-wide programme of parties and street events runs whether or not you are inside the ground.

If you do have seats, the stadium is a long walk from either MTR station in April heat, and bag rules at Kai Tak are stricter than they were at the old ground: check the permitted-items list before you leave.
